FAQ

What is the difference of a folding and fixed-blade knife, you ask?

Folding knives are designed to fold compactly to fit inside a pocket or backpack. When not in use, the blade can be folded away.

Fixed-bladed knives are designed to remain fixed during normal use. They usually have longer blades than folding knives.

Fixed-blade knives are stronger but more difficult to transport.

Why you should know basic survival skills?

It may not be possible to have food and water at all times, but being prepared can help you live longer.

You need to learn how to care for others and yourself. You will not be able to handle a crisis if you don’t know how.

You will need to know how to make shelters, light fires, and locate food if you go into the wild.

These are essential skills everyone should learn. These skills will ensure you are safe and healthy when camping.

What are your options in a survival situation

You don't have much time to think about what to say next. So you need to make sure you are prepared for anything. You need to know how you will react to an unexpected problem.

You must also be ready to improvise if you find yourself in a situation where you're not sure what to do.

If you are in a survival situation, you will likely encounter problems such:

  • Being trapped in a remote area
  • Getting lost
  • Limited food supply
  • Running low on water
  • Facing hostile people
  • Facing wild animals
  • Finding shelter
  • Fighting off predators
  • Lighting the fire
  • Using tools
  • Building shelters
  • Hunting
  • * Fishing

What time does it take for help to be found after you have lost your way?

This depends on several variables:

  • Where you are
  • What type of terrain do you have?
  • No matter whether you have cell reception
  • How many people have seen you?
  • It doesn't matter if your are hurt
  • Whether you are dehydrated
  • You have been drinking water?
  • How recently have you eaten?
  • Wearing appropriate clothing is important
  • No matter if you're carrying a compass or a map,
  • How familiar do you feel with the region?
  • How many years has it been since your loss?
  • How much time did you spend searching for help
  • How much time does it take for people to notice you missing
  • How quickly they decide to search for you
  • How many rescuers attract you?
  • How many rescues did you receive

What is the single most important thing for survival?

Food is essential for survival. You also need shelter from the elements, which are not as essential as food. You will not live very long if there isn't enough food.

Why is knot-tying so important for survival?

All around the world, people use knots for tying together ropes or fishing lines. They also have many other uses, including tying bags shut, securing objects to trees, and creating makeshift shelters. When you are required to tie yourself to a tree, rope, or secure your shelter, the ability to make knots can be a lifesaver.

How to Purify Drink Water in Emergencies

In times of natural disasters, drinking water purification is one of the most critical activities. The process of purifying drinking water includes filtering, disinfection, and storage. Many people have saved their lives by drinking clean water during times of emergency. It also makes it easier to recover faster after disasters.

Purified water should always remain out of direct sunlight. Purified water should not be stored with oxygen. Plastic bags and bottles are good alternatives if you don't have enough containers. Keep the water chilled at 4°C (40°F). Avoid freezing the water to prevent ice crystals from forming.

These steps will help you prepare purified drinking water.

  1. Boil water till it boils. You can strain the boiling water by placing it through a strainer to remove any impurities.
  2. One teaspoon of iodine should be added to each 2 gallons. Stir thoroughly before adding the iodine.
  3. Store the water in airtight containers. Do not keep the water longer than three days.
  4. Label the container with the date, type of water, and amount of water.
  5. Make sure that your water supply has a safe and reliable source!
